美华史记 | 中国留美学生的归去来兮：变迁（1947-1957）
1943-1947年，国民政府为战后建设着想，建立了留学考试制度。在二年中数千名来到美国上研究所。1949-1951年期间，有千余名留学生学成后回国。但很快因朝鲜战争的爆发，从1951年底美国开始禁止理、工和医科的中国留学生回国。1953年美国政府通过《1953年援助难民法》，首次允许部分中国留学生永久居留。1954年留学生组织起来，通过媒体，影响美国社会；并与中国政府取得了联系。1955年在日内瓦谈判中，美中达成协议，允许美国韩战被俘飞行员和中国留学生各自回国。据美国政府统计，截至1954年底，美国共有5400名中国留学生，从1955到1957年1月，第二批中国留学生陆续回国，前后两批归国留美学生总共大约1200人。
