Congresswoman Grace Meng has been the heart and soul to promote National Museum of Asian American & Pacific Islander History and Culture ever since 2015.

On May 25, 2021, Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-NY-6) introduced bill H.R. 3525 – Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture Act (117th Congress), calling on the Smithsonian to consider opening a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture.  This bill followed several bills previously proposed by Meng since December 18, 2015 including H.R.4308 – 114th Congress (2015-2016), H.R.869 – 115th Congress (2017-2018), and H.R.4132 – 116th Congress (2019-2020).

Let’s watch what Ms. Meng said in a legislative hearing on the H.R.3525, from the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anLmObjGAy8 (27:45 to 32:01)

According to the draft bill, an eight-member committee will conduct a feasibility study on the construction of the National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture. They are required to:

(1) report on action plan recommendations for the establishment and maintenance of the National Museum of Asian American & Pacific Islander History and Culture in the District of Columbia;

(2) develop a fundraising plan to support the establishment, operation, and maintenance of the museum through public donations;

(3) conduct an independent review of the fundraising plan, including an analysis of the resources the museum will need to build and maintain its permanent operations without reliance on federal funding;

(4) submit a legislative action plan to build the museum. The committee may convene national meetings related to museums.

Our dream is for the Asian American Museum to be built on the last vacant lot of the National Mall.

In the last 7 years, Congresswoman Meng has been working against the time to get her registration passed.

Since May 2021, a grassroots campaign has launched to promote AAPI Museum, led by “美华史记“ (the Association of Chinese Americans for Social Justice, https://usdandelion.com) and AAPI Museum Advisory board (https://appi-museum-advisory-board.org), with financial support from “美华史记“, and National Council of Chinese Americans (https://myncca.org). By the end of 2021, the white paper “Promoting National Museum of Asian American & Pacific Islander” has published (https://usdandelion.com/archives/6563). Currently the advisory board is fundraising for the museum.

On March 7, 2022, Congresswomen Meng twitted the following:
